bullocks which are now used, in substitution for coolies,

for the traction of dust-carts, sweepers, &c., at Kowloon.

(f). Imports and Exports Office, Quarters

for Searchers, . $4,500. At present the Chin ese

searchers are quartered at Tsimshatsui, because it was

impossible to get suitable quarters in Victoria at anything

like a reasonable rent. As the work of these men lies

entirely on this side of the water, it will in every way

be better to have quarters built for them in Victoria. It

is expected that by charging a reasonable rent the building

will pay for itself in a few years.

(g). Lighthouse and Quarters, Kap Sing

Island, $10,000. As a result of correspondence which

had taken place between the Hongkong Chamber of Commerce

and the Government relative to a petition of Masters of

River and Coasting Steamers for the better lighting of

the Capsuimun Pass, it has been decided to instal on

Kap Sing Island an occulting light of the 6th. Order and

to build quarters for the Chinese attendants for the

proposed light. The lighting apparatus is the subject of

correspondence with the Crown Agents. An estimate of its

cost has not yet been obtained.

(h). Maternity Hospital, $10,000.
